The Players

Profiles of all those who have helped and hindered us on the farm.

Danny Boy, the estate agent.

While in England the relationship you have with the estate agent you buy from is probably going to be about as warm as that with the bank manager, or at best lawyer, in Japan it seemed he became a temporary member of our family.

Mind you maybe that’s just ‘Danny Boy’ as I like to call him. Some famous Danny Boy moments:

1)When discussing the removal of an almost inaccessible 2nd floor balcony.

Danny Boy: ‘Oh, you shouldn’t take that away, it’s vital.’

Me: ‘Why?’

Danny Boy: ‘Well, it..it…(starts to shuffle feet and look at ceiling).. Your right, completely pointless.’

2) At signing of contract, crammed into a tiny room with ourselves, his boss, legal administrator, Bank manager and clerks present. During a long period of silence……

Danny Boy:….(sigh)…..I have absolutely nothing to do now…….

3) At completion of contract, on departure of legal administrator et al. Everybody stands to bow respectfully and gracefully.

Danny Boy squeezed in on the end of the table tries to get up bashes his kneecaps on the table leg falls back, recovers then finishes proceedings awkwardly half standing trying not to have hysterics.

  1. Enjoyed reading your adventures to date and wish you every success in the farming endeavour but when will you find the time to make sausages?

Best wishes to you, your family and of course your helpful father-in-law.
